"The Angel Badge"

In the spring of 1908 Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence devised the colours purple, white and green to represent Suffragettes so that they would be identified ‘with colour, gay sound, movement, beauty’. Later that year the Suffragette ‘Angel’ badge of a young woman dressed in white emerging from prison walking over broken chains and carrying ‘Votes for Women’ streamers was designed by Sylvia Pankhurst.
